Streaming art to you

Turn any screen or wall into a work of art

What is Videothèque Art Stream?

We are a streaming platform that brings you video art from contemporary artists to display in your home across web-enabled devices. We are different from other websites that offer digital images or videos for purchase. We stream art to you on-demand for a monthly or yearly subscription. This makes the art more affordable and gives you added flexibility in choosing and rotating works.

Got it, but what is video art actually?

Video art is a digital artistic work with moving images. It rarely contains any actors, dialogue or plot. Think of it as a moving painting or photograph. The video is there to enhance the atmosphere of your space, rather than be viewed like a short film.

What does Videothèque sell?

We offer video art from our library of artists’ works for short term rental as long as you are a subscribing customer. You can view our curated playlists or browse our video library. On our AppleTV app, you can favorite a work and create your own playlist of favorites. Subscriptions are a convenient and affordable way to listen to music and watch movies. We want to make it just as convenient and affordable to access digital art.

What are playlists?

Playlists are a curated selection of videos with a common theme. Each playlist runs an hour or two in length. We offer many different playlists to choose from and will change them periodically. Think of the playlists as video art television programming, but without the commercials. You can change playlists like you would change the channel on your TV.

Our playlists will expose you to our artists and the variety of works we have to offer. Use it to discover your favorite videos and artists. Our video player also permits you to skip to your favorite video or loop the entire set for extended viewing.

What is Videothèque Art Stream?

Videothèque Art Stream LLC is a new business venture that offers high quality, curated video art to customers through Videothèque’s secure, internet-based streaming services. Our mission is to provide a means for video artists to display their works to the public through a closed system web-based portal.

Why do you call yourself Videothèque?

Our name reflects what we hope to become -- a video library for artists and art patrons.

What will Videothèque offer?

Videothèque will offer its customers access to Videothèque’s video library either through Videothèque’s website or apps (currently available on AppleTV and Roku).

How will artists be compensated?

As our partner in this venture, Videothèque intends to share a significant portion of our revenues with the artists. Revenues will generally be allocated among artists based on the number of times their work is viewed.

How will Videothèque be different from other video content providers?

Videothèque will be different from other video content providers in three respects: (1) organization of content, (2) delivery system, and (3) target customer. Videothèque’s video content will be highly curated by genre, artist and descriptive tags to enable ease of browsing and selection. Our business model is different. We do not sell artist works. Artists are not restricted in their current activities. Your works are available for rental as long as you decide to participate in our program. You can add and remove works for viewing at any time.

In what countries will Videothèque operate?

As an internet company, Videothèque will be available globally. However, Videothèque’s marketing and sales efforts will be focused on North America and Europe. Because our service is unique, Videothèque does not see itself as a competitor to other video content providers with whom artists may already have a relationship.

Where will video files be stored?

Video files transmitted by Videothèque will be hosted on our secure web host. No customer will ever have access to the digital file.

Will Videothèque’s website and server be secure?

Yes. The security of artists’ works is one of Videothèque’s top priorities. The digital file will only be stored on Videothèque’s web host. Unlike many video content providers who transmit videos on a DVD through the mail, digital files will never be transferred to Videothèque’s customers and will not be subject to pirating or copying via Videothèque’s streaming service.

What type of videos is Videothèque looking for? Are there any restrictions on what content the artist provides?

Videothèque is interested in atmospheric, artistic videos, including videoclip, landscape, abstract, conceptual, short narrative, animation and computer graphics, of a duration of no more than 60 minutes. We do not feature documentaries, theatrical, avant garde cinema, short films, performing arts, music videos or overtly political or pornographic works.

How many works may an artist contribute?

Artists may submit an unlimited number of works. However, each work must be previewed and accepted by our curatorial staff.

What benefits will artists receive as a content provider to Videothèque?

Videothèque will pay artists a percentage of the fee it receives as a royalty. Artists who contribute to Videothèque’s Video Library will increase their exposure to the public and within the video art community. Videothèque’s website will promote its artists by displaying artist bios, descriptions of the works and title credits. We are not an open system. All artists must apply in order to join our program.

What rights is the artist granting to Videothèque under the artist license agreement?

The artist is granting Videothèque a license to sub-license their works to Videothèque clients. The license is for a one-year period, renewable annually and may be cancelled by the artist at any time effective at the end of the then-current license term in the year in which the notice is given.

What rights does the artist retain? Will participation in Videothèque interfere with an artist’s existing business relationships?

The artist will retain the copyright and ownership of their works. Videothèque’s license will not restrict the artist from selling or displaying their works through other venues. Videothèque does not require exclusivity so as not to interfere with an artist’s current or future business relationships.

Artists who are represented by galleries or other agents will be responsible for compensating their agents if required. If prior approval is required to display works, we will offer those videos through a closed system called “Videothèque Select”, which will be available to curators, museums and an exclusive list of art patrons.

May an artist restrict to whom videos are provided?

Generally, no. Videothèque’s business will generally operate without human intervention, so we will be unable to inform artists of the client for their works prior to rental. We can restrict viewing by country under certain circumstances. We will inform an artist if their works are used in a commercial setting.

If you require control over the distribution of your works, we suggest you apply for our “Videothèque Select” program.

How can I join?

The information herein is qualified by the terms of the artist license agreement. Videothèque does not guarantee future results or the success of its business. Videothèque may decide to terminate its business at any time in its sole discretion, in which event Videothèque will certify as to the destruction of all video files retained by it. Videothèque guarantees the payment of royalties only to the extent revenues are actually collected by Videothèque, and then in accordance with the formula Videothèque determines represents the fairest allocation to the artist.
