Alix Delmas

Bayonne, France

ALIX DELMAS was born in Bayonne in 1962, and lived in Dakar until she was 14 years old. She went to study painting at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. Alix is a versatile, even protean, and fundamentally experimental artist. The photographic and video “mises en scene” that she constructs blend performance and sculpture, paint and light. These installations shake up our shared perceptions of interior places and exterior spaces. The sensation of going off piste and the intrusive territories present in her work, surely derived from perceptions formed in her childhood as French and foreign, of both here and elsewhere, allow her to tackle the idea of the outside, the in between, the beside, through visual arts, from a reversed or opposing position.

In 2016, she won the Special Prize in Video Art at Arte Laguna and in 2013, she won the Celeste Prize for the the video section and was a finalist in the photography section. She won the Alatadis Finalist Award in 2003. She has exhibited her work in Espace culturel Louis Vuitton, Centre d'art contemporain d’Istres, Drawing Center NYC, La Force de l'art Grand Palais, Frac Auvergne, Domaine de Chamarande, Musée d Museum of modern art Paris, La Nuit Blanche Paris, Landesmuseum Linz, Leube Foundation, Musée d'art et archéologie d' Aurillac, Centre d'art de Gennevilliers, Centre photographique de Lectoure, Centre d'art d'Ivry, Saison Vidéo, Paris Photo, Rencontres internationales Paris Berlin Madrid.
